College Bound Course Recommendations

Most colleges today have admission requirements that exceed GSHS graduation requirements. Students who plan to attend college should, at a minimum, take: 

English…………………………………………...40 credits (not including: Journalism, Drama)

Social Studies…………………………………...30 credits (American History, World Cultures/Geography, Fundamentals American Democracy)

Mathematics……………………………………...40 credits

Science………………………………………..…..30 credits (Physical and Biological)

Foreign Language………………………………...20 credits

Physical Education……………………………….10 credits

Health……………………………………………..10 credits

Career Skills………………………………………10 credits (Business & Technology classes)

Fine Arts…………………………………………...10 credits (Art, Music, Drama) 

 

 GSHS Graduation Requirements

These are the minimum graduation requirements. However, GSHS requires students to exceed these recommendations.

Beginning with the class of 2018, students receiving a diploma from the Roaring Fork School District must meet or exceed the following criteria:

Students must enroll in a rigorous schedule of classes as determined by their school. Students will be expected to enroll in a four-year course of study in order to meet or exceed the Colorado Higher Education Admission Requirements. These requirements may be modified according to individualized plans for Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners.

Five credits will be granted for each semester of a course passed.

 

Courses:

English: Complete 30 high school english credits (level 1-3 or higher) or demonstrate college readiness. Students must enroll in 10 credits of English every year.

Social Studies: 30 credits including the study of:

  1. 10 credits of history, including US or World History

  2. 5 credits of Civics

  3. 5 credits of Geography

Math: Complete 30 high school mathematics credits (Integrated Mathematics levels 1-2 or higher) or demonstrate college readiness. Students must enroll in 10 credits of mathematics every year through 11th grade.

Science: Complete 30 credits including physical and biological science

Physical Education: 10 credits

Health: 5 credits

Fine Arts: 10 credits (e.g., Art, Music, Drama)

Capstone Project: Complete an approved capstone project
