Principal's Welcome/BIENVENIDA DEL DIRECTOR

Welcome to Glenwood Springs High School

As principal of Glenwood Springs High School, I am pleased to work in a community dedicated to "Changing Students' Real-Life Chances." While we emphasize academic achievement, we also push to develop the whole person. Our school offers a broad range of programs, including fine arts, theatre, band, choir, and JROTC, to ensure students have opportunities to explore their interests. Two of our JROTC students were selected for a highly competitive pilot training program this summer and received their licenses.

All students are given a laptop computer. This assists our highly capable teachers in helping students achieve high academic growth.

Over the years, we have seen strong improvements in student results. For instance, 47% of our 2024 graduates earned at least one Advanced Placement score of 3 or higher, compared to 13% in 2012. Twenty-nine of last year’s graduates earned a 4.0 GPA.  We require all juniors to take either AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature, challenging them to work at college performance levels.

We aim to balance excellence with equity in all we do. Recently, Jay Mathews of the Washington Post, who oversees the Challenge Index, noted our school’s performance as being competitive on a national level. The Challenge Index is a longstanding high school ranking system that emphasizes school quality beyond just test scores.

US News and World recognizes Glenwood Springs High School as in the top 10 percent of the nation’s schools. We score particularly high for college readiness and are rated as a Performance school by the State.

With a student body of 1,000 and a faculty of 65, we strive to create a supportive environment where every student can grow and succeed.

We recognize that as parents, you are the experts on your children. The effect you have is immense. We pledge to do our best to help your children achieve their potential.

Warmly,

Paul Freeman Principal, Glenwood Springs High School
